Pongal @GCT
The golden rays and the warmth of the sun brings happiness and sets the festive mood all over the place.As the calendar turns, Pongal- the thanks giving festival to the sun God marks its presence and at GCT it is evident by the enthusiasm in the air. With the hype and eagerness beaming, the red carpet was rolled two days ahead of schedule in GCT with students, teachers and staffs celebrating as one in the presence of the principal. The programs were conducted by the Tamil Mandram and it kicked off with lighting the bonfire for preparing pongal by the principal. The events included ball in the basket and “paanaiodaithal” in which staffs participated with full spirit. There were traditional events like “therukoothu” which was performed by the crew of the Tamil Mandram in order to revive art forms of the olden tamilians. And as the finale of the event the characteristic chorus of “Pongalo Pongal!” filled the air when the pongal spurted out of the pot. As a compliment of their presence, all of the on lookers were presented with the delicacy of pongal to enrich their taste buds! Years pass by, but then the tradition of colours, hope and good fortune never fails to promise our hearts on this Thai Thirunal.
