The thriller genre has a separate fan base. Though the critics praise certain movies for their artistic value, they are not revered much by the general audience. Meanwhile, thriller movies always attract cinema critics and the general audience alike. This particular genre has evolved itself into multiple forms such as detective novels, shows, horrors and mystery stereotypes. In this article, we have made a list of 10 all-time great thriller movies which are sure to keep you at the edge of your seats. As usual, these movies are not the only good ones and your suggestions of movies not on the list are always welcome!

1. The Game (1997)

David Fincher’s “The Game”, one of the best movies and it rides on its suspense factor throughout the film. The whole purpose of the consequences that occurred throughout the entire film is only revealed at the end, and this purpose turns out to be silly! And since the audience are unaware of this truth, every scene is guaranteed to shock you and make you paranoid. You won’t have a single clue of what is happening until the climax. For viewers who love horror and action, this movie is a must-watch!

2. Triangle(2009)

Theme: Timeline paradox

When a good thriller plot is baked in a sci-fi oven, a chilling thriller that drives us to the edges of our seats is guaranteed. In Triangle, a mystery ship is connected with the concept of time travel. The plot revolves around the female lead and her dark moments in the mystery ship. Every scene in the movie will scare you in a unique way and it develops the desire to know what is happening? The context of the movie may be a little confusing for the audience who are not into sci-fi but for those who enjoy time travel thrillers, yeah, this is the movie you should watch this weekend.

3. Incendies(2010)

Theme: Detective genre

A mother is dead, and her twin children get two letters from their mother, which was written by her before she died. One letter asks them to find their dad, and the other asks them to find their lost brother. These twins separate and both go on a journey to find them. What is this all about? Why did she ask her children to find them? These questions are answered in the film. I swear this will be one of the movies with the best twist you have ever seen. Initially, the film may look slow-paced but eventually the speed increases just like a roller-coaster. Just like the other ones, this one is a movie not to be missed!

4. The Prestige(2006)

This movie is Christopher Nolan’s answer to his thriller fans. The movie typically speaks about entities such as clones, twins, duplicates, and identity which in turn continuously raises questions like “Who is real? Is he a clone?” inside our minds throughout the movie. Just like the other ones, the ending of The Prestige is sheer chill. The film is based on the novel by the same name but the movie was acknowledged even by the author to be “Better than the original creation”. Nonlinear jumping kind of storytelling followed in the movie encourages you to guess the twists and secrets in it.

5. Predestination(2014)

The movie is about a protagonist who is trying to prevent a crime that occurred in the past with the help of a time travel machine. This movie is a hit among movie audiences of many languages. This movie majorly proves the paradox element in the time travel. As usual, the ending will haunt you with the twist.

6. Train to Busan(2016)

Theme: zombie

This movie holds no twists, still, it is arguably the best zombie thriller of the decade. The movie is guaranteed to keep you hooked to your screens, not offering you time for even a single second of distraction. The film doesn’t make you feel bored at all, thanks to the engaging screenplay. The story revolves around a father and his daughter who are going to meet their mother living in Busan. The other passengers of the train also create sympathy for themselves and will make you cry. The story beautifully portrays the sacrifice the characters make in the pursuit of saving their loved ones.

7. The Wailing(2016)

This Korean flick talks about Devils and Gods. Watching this movie might develop anxiety and negative thoughts in your mind. If you watch the movie alone in the night, it surely will be a shocking and a gripping experience. To be precise, the last moments of the film will haunt you for days. The story is about a father who is trying to save his daughter from devils with the help of shamans. Trust me when I say that after watching the film alone, I was unable to get sleep the whole night. If you are planning to watch this one, better watch this without looking up for reviews and plot details.

8. The Usual suspects(1995)

The entire movie is the witness story of the sole survivor of a gun battle that happened in a ship. He narrates the story about his gang and the significant events that occurred in their past. The ending of the film is absolutely unbelievable and will make you watch the movie once again from the beginning. It was this movie which started the cliche of storytelling and illusions like the one in the recent Tamil movie Vikram Vedha. The ending has in it a brilliant twist just like the other ones.

9. Buried(2010)

The movie’s protagonist is buried alive inside a coffin. He is threatened by the kidnappers for money and he has a cell phone. The rest of the film is basically “What happened next?”. The movie has just a single location and despite this, the writers make a brilliant attempt in bonding us with the character. The movie has a relatively short run time and is a must-watch for all thriller genre fans.

10. I saw the devil(2010)

Theme: Serial killer

The movie has intense violence served in the form of cold revenge. The story is about a husband who wants to avenge a serial-killer for murdering his wife. Unlike the other movies, it takes the effort to show the humanity behind the shades of characters and not just their backstories. The film has so much violence and gripping scenes and if you are allergic to blood and flesh, you are advised to stay away from this one.
